I reported earlier that the local NEISD school district voted to increase first year teacher salaries to over $40K. Now the other local districts have to scramble to keep up.
NISD alone (the largest district here) needs 400 new teachers for this fall (we are a growing city).
The age old story of supply and demand seems to finally be working in the favor of our teachers. I couldn’t be happier for them.
It will be interesting to see if our now “higher than average” salaries for new teachers attracts people from out of the region – or out of the state.
Thanks, teachers! A well deserved wage-war is ensuing – and we all win.
