On New Year’s we shoot our fireworks from the Tower of the Americas. On most years it makes for a wonderful show. The combination of fireworks shooting off the 750 foot structure and the ground-based fireworks makes for a good show (if the cloud cover isn’t too low).
This year was a pretty good year. It was a bit windy, so the fireworks didn’t have a lot of “hang time”. But it was a nice show.
The best fireworks show I ever saw was in San Francisco for the celebration of the 50th birthday of the Golden Gate Bridge. The narration, music, and fireworks were just dazzling for that event. And standing on the Golden Gate Bridge with tens of thousands of others was a blast.
The best crowdsourced fireworks display I ever saw was in Honolulu, Hawaii. We lived on the mountainside, overlooking Honolulu and Pearl Harbor. For whatever reason, fireworks are a huge deal in Hawaii. The entire city would fill with smoke there were so many people shooting off fireworks. Even up on the mountain we could clearly hear the fireworks, and smell the sulphur.
My daughter and I shared a glass of champagne at midnight. It was a nice evening. I hope you had a wonderful beginning to 2008. So far, mine is perfect!
