At what point does it become disingenuous to describe the gmail problems as effecting “a subset of our users”? Sure, technically speaking 75% or 98% are only subsets of 100%, but doesn’t that kind of portrayal become a polite way of misleading and minimizing the actual impact?

It sure would make sense for Google to post these updates on my Gmail “server is dead page”, wouldn’t it? Heck, they are serving up the server error pages anyways
