Lost in translation

My daughter went out last night and shortly after she left sent me the text message, "Can you shut off my flat-iron"?

I replied via text message, "y".  By that I meant "YES".

She read it as, "Why?" and got a kick out of the fact that I didn’t know why I thought her flat-iron should be turned off.

I think this is an example of an "SMS generation gap"
