Microsoft eyeing deal to buy Yahoo

I’ve written about this many times, most recently this January.  I wonder why Microsoft is taking so long?  Do they expect Yahoo to get cheaper?

NEW YORK – Microsoft Corp. has intensified its pursuit of a deal to take over Yahoo Inc., asking the company to re-enter formal talks, the New York Post reported on its Web site on Friday. While the two companies have held informal deal talks over the years, the latest approach signals a new urgency on Microsoft’s part, the paper said, citing unnamed sources.

  1. Yuvi – in my opinion Microsoft would get:
    a) A huge jump in pecent of the search market
    b) A huge increase in user eyeballs
    c) access to Yahoo’s new Advertising Engine they are working on
    d) Access to all of the current Yahoo Ad revenue

  2. What would Microsoft possibly gain from the acquisition, from a technical and strategical point of view (as apposed to from a financial pov)(that was one hell of a boring sentence, wasn’t it?)

The only part of Yahoo that would be new to Microsoft would be Flickr, and, uhm, can’t think of anything else. I’d rather have them buy Zooomr(disclaimer: I have no idea what a stock is(gotta learn)) or Automattic than Yahoo. Seriously. I can’t think of a single Yahoo product I use right now (except YIM (which too I have a choice to opt out, because of integration with WLM))

Oh, and the new theme looks nice, Rob. Any pointer to the source so that maybe I can tweak it when I have the time? The comments section looks nice…

  3. To be honest, I would prefer for Microsoft to first counter Google’s purchase of DoubleClick, by buying ValueClick, Inc.
