Review – Charlie Wilson’s War

cww_poster This is one of the best movies I have seen in two years or so. Tom Hanks plays his best role since Philadelphia.

Charlie Wilson’s War tells a based-on-truth story about a hard drinking, hard-nosed Texas Congressman who changed the history of our planet (and I argue tries to teach a lesson with the opening line of the final credits, which I won’t give away).

While Tom Hanks had a wonderful performance Philip Seymour Hoffman stole the show in what I think will be an Academy Award nomination performance. As the vulgar, brash, insolent, and even arrogant CIA operative, Hoffman is brilliant. Without his performance this movie would have been less filling.

I highly recommend this film. Not safe for the kids or the in-laws though – tons of naked ladies, some drugs, violence and booze. Like I said – I highly recommend it!
