It was a number of years ago when the company I worked for (Intersil) “bought” Elantec. About a week later our new CEO, Rich Beyer, arrived in San Antonio. As the local “site manager” I picked Rich up from the airport, got him to the office, and introduced him to the team. I also got to spend a fair amount of time with him and found him to be a decent guy.
A short time later he sold our division to yet another company (GlobespanVirata), so I have mixed feeling about Rich regarding that – had we stayed with Intersil the PRISM chipset would probably still own the WLAN market. But I also understand that keeping the WLAN division might not have been good for Intersil.
But deals get done, people change, and priorities change.
Now a few of my ex-coworkers who used to work with me at Intersil when Rich was the CEO now find Rich to be their new CEO at Freescale.
Very small world indeed!
Freescale Semiconductor Inc. (Austin, Texas) has named Rich Beyer, CEO of Intersil Corp. (Milpitas, Calif.) until today, as its chairman and CEO. The change is effective next month. Beyer is taking over from Michel Mayer, who last week announced his plans to resign after four years at the helm following the 2004 spin-out of Freescale from Motorola Inc. (Schaumburg, Ill.).
