The Online Magazine Formerly Known As Rob’s Blog: Military friends vs. other friends

My friend Bruce sent me this.  I’ve known him forever; and not for long enough.  He knows me well, so he knew I would enjoy this.

I would add though that:

A friend you call and ask to borrow money and they ask, “Why”.

A Military friend you call and ask for money and they ask, “When”.

There really is a difference – it’s a fraternity of sorts.  It’s a common bond no matter what branch you served in.  The common thread is strong relationships with people – a sense of trust you develop only by placing your life in someone else’s hands.  Of realizing you are doing it, accepting it, and eventually embracing it.  You just learn to trust people that much.  And they know how much you trust them, so they rarely let you down.

  1. I had to send this link to a couple of buddies of mine (former managers actually). I know they will laugh their heads off…as a civilian, it has taken me a while to truly grasp that military folks have a special bond that the rest of us just don’t have with them… and that is OK! 🙂
