I don’t completely disagree with you here V, but too soon.  Too soon.

It seems to me that the higher the death toll, the harder the media has to work to mask their glee. This kind of shit makes me wonder why no one bothers to shoot up a television station.

(Anyone want to place bets on the first company to attempt to make money off of this? I can’t wait to buy my plastic bracelet and car magnet in remembrance of the tragedy. Perhaps someone will make bloody bobble head dolls to look like the victims. We can collect them all!)

  1. Just one thought:
“The Media” = the average American.

The simple and sad truth is that … media coverage like this, gossip magazines, pulp TV, and Britney’s bald snatch… IS what the average American WANTS to see. Don’t just blame the media! Blame the simpletons. The ‘media’ is just commercial… they simply follow the money. Make ‘science’ sexy.. and THAT’s where they go! (don’t hold your breath!)

  2. Chris – interesting way to look at it. I’ll have to give it more thought – but right now I still think it’s just simply too soon.

But it is awful how the media is preying on the students – kind of like buzzards tearing at dead meat.

Oh – I DID love V’s line about Imus though!

  3. I disagree. This type of thing needs to be asked now. Not in a few days or weeks, these questions need to be asked now. V is absolutely right that the media went berserk over this and is treating these near-victims absolutely horribly. The scare tactics being used are sickening. I have a great disdain for modern media for this reason: they promote entertainment over journalism. Sticking a microphone in the face of someone who almost just died is disrespectful, irresponsible, and downright despicable.
