Vista Ultimate 64 bit Install-forever?

It took me about 40 minutes to install the 32 bit version of Vista on my main desktop machine.  So far, on the same machine (different partition) it’s taken over 4 hours to install the 64 Bit version.

The screen is blank most of the time, but disk access, and an occasional screen do appear – so I don’t think it’s stuck – it’s just taking forever!

  1. Well, I’m not sure how long it took Vista 64 bit to install. It had been doing *something* for about 9 hours when I went to sleep.

I woke up this morning to a blank screen, so I rebooted the PC.

I got the “Windows failed to start properly” screen, selected “Start Normally” and Vista64 loaded and looks like it installed fine (now the search begins for 64 bit drivers!)

I don’t plan on running the 64 bit version much – I just wanted to compare it to the 32 bit version.

  2. Did that – disk checks out fine. It’s still installing (almost 7 hours now). Very odd.

  3. ‘different partition’

    ‘over four hours’

I’d run a disk check on that partition first, then try again…
