Windows Tip: Copy error messages text to the clipboard

copy-error Damn.  Crap, I can’t imagine how many times I could have used this – if I would only have known!  Sure, I used screen shots – often, but screen shots aren’t as useful sometimes as just the text (try to do a Google Search with a screen shot :))

Why Microsoft doesn’t include a “copy to clipboard” button, I don’t know.  But I _will_ remember that Control-C captures the text for me.

Very cool.

Apparently since Windows 2000, you’ve been able to copy the entire error message to your clipboard by hitting the universal copy shortcut, Ctrl-C (who knew?!). That means the whole process of hunting down obscure error messages especially those containing cryptic error codes just got a whole lot easier. Thanks Matthew!
