WordPress 2.3 and Tags = More Comment Spam?

I’ve purposely not tagged a large number of my posts lately.  Some posts I have tagged.

I’ve been doing some investigative work (like any good ex-Quality Assurance guy would).

When I use the new tagging feature in WordPress 2.3 I get 62% more Comment Spam for those posts than posts that do not have tags.

Why?  I don’t know.  But it is getting increasingly difficult to ignore the fact.  What is most disconcerting is that these Spams seem to get past Akismet, Spam Karma 2, and Better Behavior.

I did mention this to Paul (a frequent commenter here) within 24 hours of installing WordPress 2.3 but didn’t report it any further until I had more evidence.  Now I think I do.

Anyone else notice this?

  1. @Ike – it is in my nature

  2. I haven’t started using tags yet.

Why be an early adopter? 😀
